At Love, Amelia, we have pledged our support to help families who will be placed in Sunderland and South Tyneside. These families are children and babies who have left everything they have for the chance of being safe. Many will arrive with nothing but the clothes on their backs, no nappies, nowhere to sleep, no clothes. Nothing.
Refugee status can take months to be processed, the likelihood is it will take longer than usual due to this humanitarian crisis. Families will not be allowed to work during this process and will survive on the bare minimum. This will be incredibly difficult for families and we, as a community, will do what we can to support them.
So, how can you help?
There are a number of ways you can get involved to support more families in desperate need:
1. Donate items
Please see our wishlist which highlights what we are most in need of to respond to all requests for support. We kindly ask for all donated items to be in good, clean condition and free from damage, stains or missing parts. We are not able to distribute items which are not in good condition.
We kindly ask you only donate items on our wishlist as resources and space are limited. For information on our wishlist and upcoming donation days, please click the below button
2. Donate funds
We appreciate all contributions, large and small, and thank you for your kindness and generosity. Donating money can help us buy essential items needed to support families
Some examples of how funds raised can be used include:
- £5 could buy a pack of new underwear for a child
- £10 could buy a home safety kit
- £20 could buy one month supply of nappies for a baby
- £25 could buy one safety gate
- £30 could buy a cot/cot-bed mattress and sheets or a single bedding set with duvet, pillows and covers
- £50 could help buy a new single mattress for a child
You can make a one-off donation or make a monthly pledge to support families in need.
You can also donate via SMS. Simply text LOVEAMELIA to 70085 to donate £5
